The Western Crusaders – Team of the Decade (1999-2009)

by Peter Steve

On the 29th April 1998, the Western Crusaders Gridiron Club was formed, competing for the VicBowl in the 1999 championship series for Gridiron Victoria.

The Western Crusaders were bound for glory, winning the 1999 (their first year of competition), 2000 & 2007 VicBowl Championship’s. The Crusaders consistently have been in the finals since their inclusion and strive for success on and off the field.

Throughout their success since 1998, the Western Crusaders have not forgotten their past. Originally named the Westside Vikings, the team has been part of Gridiron in Victoria since the early 1980′s. It’s proud history of accomplishments and players, some of whom tread the paths in other countries playing the great sport and others, still to this day, either continue to support the game and the team.

Friday 14th January 2011 marks another milestone for the Western Crusaders, when they name their “TEAM OF THE DECADE”- 1999 to 2009.

The team consists of past and current players, along with Coaching Staff of the past 10 years. In 2002, the Western Crusaders did not enter a side into competition and therefore, no mention of nominations have been included for that year. The selection criteria will be based on Tenure, Performance on and off the field & VicBowl.

Congratualtions to all past and present players, coaches, medical and administrations staff and to everyone else for making the Western Crusaders a successful team.
